Maya Patel, MD

Internal Medicine

Since 2000, Dr. Maya Patel has served as medical director of the Preventive Medicine Institute in Sugar Land, Texas. Her responsibilities involve managing patient care and leading the Obesity Project. She has a particular focus on creating uniform standards of education and prevention for various diseases and taking steps to ward off childhood obesity. Dr. Patel and her colleagues adhere to the highest level of care and have achieved great success in helping patients avoid hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol-related complications.

 

The institute’s whole-person approach emphasizes balanced health care that addresses patients’ lifestyles and wellness, not just their problems. Dr. Patel earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas (UT) Medical School San Antonio, and subsequently pursued advanced medical education in internal medicine and pediatrics at the UT Medical School Houston. As an experienced educator, Dr. Patel additionally served as director of continuing medical education with the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital for 14 years. In this capacity, she ensured that physicians received the most up-to-date knowledge, which enabled them to provide safe and effective patient treatment. She also served as Chair of ICU/In-Patient Committee with the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, as well as Chief of Medicine and Chair of Peer Review at St. Luke's Health Sugar Land Hospital. She currently serves as a board member for both the Accountable Care Organization and Clinical Practice Organization at the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
